During our five-minute segue, a leader often shares a massive, high-impact headline like losing a major client or a key employee resigning. This immediately derails the transition to the scorecard because the team wants to discuss it right away. How do we handle these major bombshells without losing our momentum?

The five-minute segue is designed to transition your minds from running the business to working on the business. When someone drops a major bombshell during this time, it acts like a hand grenade to your agenda. Suddenly, your five-minute warm-up is completely derailed as everyone jumps in to ask questions, offer sympathy, or brainstorm solutions.

You must handle these bombshells with immediate, unemotional sorting. The moment a leader shares a massive piece of news, the facilitator must step in and say, "That is a major headline. We need to process this. I am putting it at the top of our IDS list right now."

Once the item is written down on the Issues List, the facilitator must redirect the team back to the segue. Do not allow even a single follow-up question. If someone asks for details, the facilitator must stop them and remind the team that they will dissect the entire situation during the IDS® portion of the meeting.

This approach respects the gravity of the news while protecting the integrity of the Level 10 Meeting™ pulse. It ensures you still complete your scorecard and Rock review with clear heads, rather than diving into problem-solving while highly emotional and distracted by sudden bad news.
