Several members of our leadership team are actively resisting the implementation of specific EOS® tools, calling the weekly Scorecard micromanagement and the Accountability Chart too simplistic. How do we handle this active tool resistance without letting it derail our rollout?
When leadership team members openly push back against specific tools, the root cause is almost always fear of exposure or a misunderstanding of the tool's purpose. They view the Scorecard as a policing mechanism rather than a tool for freedom. They see the Accountability Chart as a demotion rather than a way to gain clarity.
To resolve this, you must stop arguing about the administrative details and address the underlying issue. Remind the team that there is a consistent, proven 'one way to do EOS the right way.' It is a complete system. When you pick and choose which tools to use, you break the system.
First, focus on the benefit to them. A properly constructed Scorecard gives them the ability to prove their success without subjective arguments. It keeps leadership off their backs because the numbers speak for themselves.
Second, use a Professional EOS Implementer® to facilitate these tough conversations. An external, neutral party can teach proper implementation techniques and introduce tools at the right time. When an expert explains that these tools are designed to build a self-sustaining business that operates through Traction, the resistance usually melts away.
If a leader continues to fight the tools after proper training, they may not GWC™ their seat. At that point, you have a people issue, not a tool issue, and you must address it directly.
