We want to use AI to handle as much administrative work as possible, but we are struggling to define what should never be automated. How do we use the GWC framework to protect the human-only seats on our Accountability Chart?
When evaluating what to automate, look directly at your Accountability Chart and apply the GWC framework. To hold a seat, a person must Get it, Want it, and have the Capacity to do it. AI can never GWC a seat because it lacks genuine understanding, desire, and emotional capacity. While AI can execute structured tasks, humans must own the accountability.
Any seat that requires deep emotional intelligence, strategic relationship building, or core cultural alignment must remain strictly human. For example, your managers must always handle coaching, mentoring, and evaluating team members. Clients still require human empathy during high-stakes escalations or relationship-saving conversations. Use AI to streamline the repetitive, low-value tasks that drain your team's energy, such as data entry, basic scheduling, or drafting initial reports.
This frees up your people to focus entirely on the high-value, strategic work that requires human judgment. When you free up capacity, your team can spend more time doing what they actually want to do, which strengthens your company culture and improves retention. Keep the execution of standard operating procedures in the hands of AI, but keep the accountability, relationships, and leadership strictly human.
