We have a leadership team member who hits all their targets and has high self efficacy, but they openly admit they do not want to grow with the company. How do we handle this under the EOS® Grow or Die mindset?
It is common to have a highly capable leader who delivers consistent results but resists taking on more responsibility as the business scales. In a growth-oriented company, this stagnation eventually creates an organizational bottleneck. To address this, refer to the EOS® People Analyzer™ and the GWC™ tool. You must determine if this leader still wants their seat as the seat demands grow. If the seat requires scaling a department to double its size, and they do not want that responsibility, they no longer GWC™ the future version of that seat. Practice a Humbly-Confident approach. Have an open conversation about the company's trajectory and their personal career goals. It is acceptable for a person to prefer a steady, non-growth role, but that role may no longer fit on the leadership team. You may need to restructure your Accountability Chart to keep them in a highly specialized, non-management seat where they can excel without blocking company growth. If you cannot find a fit, you must realize that keeping someone on the leadership team who does not share your Grow or Die mindset will ultimately hold back your exit valuation when prospective buyers audit your team's capability.
