Our leadership team is fully bought into EOS, but our department managers are pushing back on the weekly Level 10 Meeting, claiming it feels like a micromanagement tool. How do we shift their perspective so they see it as an operational shield?
When mid-level managers resist the weekly Level 10 Meeting, it is usually because they view it as an administrative chore rather than an operational shield. They assume it is just another status update meeting designed for corporate oversight.
To change this mindset, you must shift the focus of the meeting to its true purpose, which is giving them a platform to solve their own problems. Explain to your managers that a Level 10 Meeting is actually designed to protect their time. By dedicating ninety minutes once a week to solving issues, they eliminate the endless stream of ad hoc interruptions, texts, and emails that disrupt their daily focus.
Show them how the IDS process empowers them to clear their own roadblocks. If they are constantly waiting on approvals or struggling with cross-departmental friction, the Level 10 Meeting is where they get those issues resolved permanently.
Ensure your leadership team is modeling this behavior correctly. If your managers see you using your own weekly meetings to solve real, meaningful issues rather than just reviewing status updates, they will want that same efficiency for their teams. When run correctly, the Level 10 Meeting becomes a tool they protect fiercely, not a meeting they dread.
