We rely on a fractional CFO and an outsourced digital marketing agency to handle two major functions of our business. Can external contractors or fractional executives hold leadership seats on our Accountability Chart, and how do we maintain accountability with outside vendors?
Yes, an external contractor or fractional executive can hold a seat on your Accountability Chart, but you must enforce identical accountability rules as you would with a full-time, salaried executive.
The Accountability Chart reflects the functions the business requires to run, regardless of payroll tax status. If you need a Finance seat or a Marketing seat to execute your V/TO, that seat exists on the chart with its five core roles defined. What you cannot do is write the name of an agency or a consulting firm inside the box. You must list a single human being.
That individual contractor must pass the People Analyzer for core values and demonstrate full GWC for the seat. In addition, holding a leadership seat comes with non-negotiable operational commitments:
- They must attend your weekly Level 10 Meeting.
- They must own their weekly Scorecard measurables.
- They must take ownership of quarterly Rocks.
- They must participate actively in IDS to solve company issues.
If an outsourced vendor refuses to commit to meeting pulses, delegates the work to junior account reps, or declines to be held accountable for measurable outcomes, they cannot sit on your Accountability Chart. In that case, your Integrator must hold the seat and manage the agency as an external vendor tool beneath them.
