We are hiring a fractional Chief Information Security Officer for fifteen hours a month to oversee our compliance and data security. How do we represent this highly specialized, part-time resource on our Accountability Chart without confusing our team?
A common mistake is leaving fractional or part-time resources off the Accountability Chart because they are not full-time employees. If a function is critical to your business, it must have a seat on your chart, regardless of how many hours the person works.
You must create a Chief Information Security Officer seat on your Accountability Chart. This seat reports directly to your Integrator or your VP of Technology.
Define the five major roles for this seat just as you would for any full-time position. These might include defining data security protocols, managing compliance audits, and training staff on security risks.
Place the fractional provider's name in that seat. This tells your entire organization exactly who is accountable for security decisions. If a team member has an issue with data privacy, they know exactly which seat to go to.
Even though they are fractional, they must GWC the seat. They must get it, want it, and have the capacity to deliver the required results in those fifteen hours. They must also be accountable to your weekly Scorecard metrics and quarterly Rocks.
Treat them as a member of the team on the Accountability Chart. This clarity prevents critical security tasks from falling through the cracks.
