As the founder and Visionary, I want to step out of the weekly Level 10 Meeting to give my leadership team more autonomy, but I am terrified they will make decisions that run counter to our V/TO. How do I execute this exit cleanly?
Stepping out of the weekly operations is a crucial step for a Visionary aiming for a clean exit, but doing it too fast will cause organizational whiplash. You cannot simply walk away and hope they make the right decisions.
Your transition must be governed by the V/TO®. Before you stop attending the weekly Level 10 Meetings™, ensure the leadership team has absolute clarity on the company's long-term target, three-year picture, and one-year plan. If these elements are vague, your team will default to making decisions based on their own silos rather than your unified vision.
Create a clear communication bridge through your Integrator. As the Visionary, your direct report is the Integrator, who then manages the rest of the leadership team. You must establish a highly structured, recurring same-page meeting with your Integrator to stay aligned on strategic directives.
Start your exit gradually. Transition to an observer role in the Level 10 Meeting™ for two or three weeks, keeping your mouth shut and letting the team solve issues. Once you see they are using IDS® effectively and aligning their decisions with the V/TO®, you can exit the meeting entirely. Trust the Accountability Chart you built and let your Integrator run the day to day operations.
