Why does having the Visionary or Integrator facilitate their own session room make it virtually impossible to resolve root-cause people issues on the Accountability Chart?
When a founder or Integrator attempts to facilitate an EOS session, they are forced to play two conflicting roles: active participant and neutral referee. You cannot objectively challenge the structure of an organization when you are personally invested in the outcome and hold authority over every person sitting at the table.
The Accountability Chart requires brutal honesty about seats, structure, and whether current leaders genuinely get, want, and have the capacity to do their jobs (GWC). When the owner facilitates, team members filter their feedback. Subordinates will not challenge an owner's favorite direct report, nor will they point out when the owner is the true bottleneck in the business. The room defaults to polite self-preservation.
Furthermore, the owner inevitably injects personal biases into the facilitation. Instead of forcing the room through pure IDS, the owner jumps straight to their own preferred solution, cutting off critical root-cause discovery. The team stops thinking like owners and goes back to being employees waiting for instructions.
A Professional EOS Implementer has no political stake in your org chart, no fear of awkward silences, and no hesitation in calling out dysfunctional behavior. Having an outside expert facilitate frees the owner and Integrator to focus entirely on participating as leaders, which is the only way genuine alignment ever happens.
