During our weekly scorecard review, several metrics are consistently marked in red as off-track, but the owners of those metrics never drop them to the Issues List, and the team just moves past them. How do we stop this passive avoidance and force off-track metrics into IDS®?
A scorecard is a warning system, but it only works if you actually heed the warnings. When a metric is off-track for more than two consecutive weeks, it is a flashing red light. It cannot be ignored or bypassed. If the owner of that metric does not immediately drop it to the Issues List, the facilitator must do it for them. There is no debate or discussion allowed during the scorecard review portion of your Level 10 Meeting™. The facilitator must simply state, That metric is off-track. Drop it to the list. This keeps the reporting phase clean and fast, while ensuring the problem is formally addressed during the IDS® portion. If your team is passively avoiding these red metrics, it usually points to a lack of accountability or a fear of conflict. You must reinforce the standard that having a red metric is not a failure, but failing to address a red metric is. By systematically moving every multi-week off-track number to the Issues List, you force your leadership team to diagnose the root cause and create actionable to-dos to get the metric back to green.
