We understand that Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ are distinct parts of the EOS® journey, but our team struggles to pivot our mindset between these sessions. How do we mentally prepare the leadership team for the structural transition from the operational focus of Focus Day™ to the strategic thinking of Vision Building™?
Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ require two entirely different headspaces, and mixing them up will derail your implementation. Focus Day™ is about the ground game. It is designed to give your leadership team immediate control over the daily chaos of the business. The tools introduced on Focus Day™ are tactical and structural. You are defining the Accountability Chart™, setting up your Scorecard, and learning the Level 10 Meeting™ cadence. The mindset here is practical, execution-oriented, and focused on immediate operational discipline. Vision Building™ is about the horizon. Once you have a handle on the day-to-day operations, you can finally lift your eyes to focus on where the business is going. During these sessions, you are answering the eight questions on the V/TO®, defining your Core Values, establishing your marketing strategy, and aligning on your long-term targets. The mindset shifts from execution to alignment and strategic agreement. To help your team pivot between these sessions, you must set clear expectations before entering the room. Frame Focus Day™ as the structural foundation that earns you the right to think about the future. When you transition to Vision Building™, explicitly tell your team to lay down their daily operational fires. You cannot build a healthy three-year picture if you are still arguing about this week's customer service emails.
