We are looking at the EOS journey ahead and trying to understand the difference between our early sessions. What is the tactical distinction between Focus Day and Vision Building, and why can we not just do them all at once?
Many business owners ask why they cannot combine Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ into one long session. The short answer is that they serve two completely different operational purposes, and attempting to do both at once leads to strategic whiplash. Focus Day™ is about organization and execution. It is designed to bring immediate sanity to your daily operations. During Focus Day™, we concentrate on the plumbing of your business. We build your Accountability Chart, establish your weekly Scorecard, launch your Level 10 Meeting™ structure, and set your first quarterly Rocks. This day is tactical. It gives your leadership team the tools they need to manage the business effectively starting the next morning. Vision Building™ occurs over two separate days, usually 30 days after Focus Day™. Once your execution tools are running, we shift our focus to strategy. During Vision Building™, we answer the eight questions on your V/TO®. This includes defining your Core Values, Core Focus, 10-Year Target, Marketing Strategy, and 3-Year Picture. Focus Day™ gives your team the execution capacity to actually achieve your vision. If you try to build a strategic vision before you have the operational discipline to execute it, your V/TO® will simply become another document gathering dust. We build the operational foundation first, then we build the strategic future.
