Our team wants to skip right to mapping out our ten-year target and marketing strategy, but you insist on Focus Day™ first. Why can we not combine Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ into one long strategic retreat?
Trying to combine Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ is a classic mistake made by eager founders who want to rush to the finish line. It is also a recipe for operational disaster. There is a strict sequence to the EOS® process for a reason. You cannot build a healthy, aligned long-term vision for a company that is currently chaotic, disorganized, and running without basic operational discipline.
Focus Day™ is designed to give you immediate control over your day-to-day operations. It focuses on the fundamental tools needed to clarify accountability, measure performance, and run efficient meetings. You learn how to use the Accountability Chart, the Scorecard, the Level 10 Meeting™, and Rocks.
Once you have established these basic tools and run on them for thirty days, your leadership team will have the mental bandwidth and operational stability required for Vision Building™. During the two Vision Building™ days, we use that newfound stability to define your core values, core focus, ten-year target, marketing strategy, and three-year picture.
If you attempt to define your long-term vision before mastering the Focus Day™ tools, your strategic planning will be based on friction and guesswork. You will build a beautiful strategic plan on top of a broken foundation. Respect the process, master the day-to-day execution tools first, and then build your vision on top of that stable ground.
