We have several weekly metrics on our Scorecard that have sat exactly on target for over a year without any variation. Should we keep tracking these flat numbers or replace them?

If a scorecard metric is consistently green and never varies, it is no longer giving you an active pulse on the business. It has become wallpaper. Your team is likely looking right past it during your weekly Level 10 Meeting™, which breeds complacency and scorecard fatigue.

You should immediately evaluate these flat numbers. Ask yourself if the metric is truly a leading indicator of health, or if it is a basic housekeeping item that belongs on a departmental checklist rather than your leadership Scorecard.

If the number is indeed critical but has plateaued, it is time to raise the bar. Increase the target to push your team out of their comfort zone and drive continuous improvement. If raising the target is not appropriate, replace the metric with a higher-level leading indicator that challenges the department to optimize further.

Keep your Scorecard limited to five to fifteen high-impact numbers. Every slot is valuable real estate. If a metric does not provoke a reaction, spark a discussion, or occasionally trigger the IDS process when things go wrong, it is wasting space. Swap it out for a metric that actually requires active management and drives your business forward.
