Our leadership team is fully remote and we are struggling to keep our weekly Level 10 Meetings™ focused. People are clearly multi-tasking and our IDS® sessions feel flat. How do we fix our remote meeting health?

Remote meeting fatigue is a common issue that destroys the impact of the Level 10 Meeting. When team members are looking at their screens, it is easy to multi-task, check emails, and lose focus on the issues at hand.

To fix this, you must enforce a strict set of ground rules. First, everyone must have their cameras on, and all notifications must be muted during the ninety minutes. No exceptions.

Second, use a shared digital board to run the meeting. This keeps everyone looking at the same Scorecard, Rocks, and Issues List. The person running the meeting must actively manage the agenda and call on people directly to keep them engaged.

During the IDS portion, do not let people sit in silence. If an issue is on the table, every leader must contribute their perspective. If your IDS sessions feel flat, it is usually because people are avoiding the real, uncomfortable issues. As the leader, you must model vulnerability. Bring a tough, sensitive issue to the list and solve it openly.

Consider having the team meet in person at least once a quarter for your planning sessions to rebuild that human connection. A remote L10 requires twice the energy and discipline of an in-person meeting to be effective.
