Our weekly To-Do List is turning into a graveyard of incomplete tasks that get carried over week after week. How do we regain the 90% completion standard?
A healthy leadership team maintains a 90% completion rate on weekly To-Dos. If your list is full of items that roll over week after week, you are suffering from a lack of accountability or poorly defined tasks.
First, check the scope of the To-Dos. A weekly To-Do must be a bite-sized, actionable item that can realistically be completed within 7 days. If a task is too large, it is actually a project or a Rock. Break it down into smaller weekly steps.
Second, enforce consequences for incomplete work. When reviewing the To-Do List, if an item is not done, ask the owner when it will be complete. If a To-Do rolls over more than twice, it must be dropped to the Issues List. Use IDS® to understand why it is stuck. Does the owner have too much on their plate? Are they struggling to prioritize? Or do they lack the GWC™ for their seat? Addressing this directly protects your operational momentum and stops execution delay.
