Our weekly segue during the Level 10 Meeting is getting hijacked by managers sharing professional updates and client saves instead of sharing personal or professional good news. How do we protect this transition?
When managers use the weekly segue to report on client saves or operational updates, they are slipping back into work mode before the meeting even starts. The segue is designed to transition your minds from the daily operational grind into a focused, collaborative headspace. It builds team health by connecting you as human beings.
To fix this, the facilitator must reset the expectations for the segue. Good news must be truly personal or professional highlights that are not standard daily tasks. For example, a personal highlight is a child winning a game, and a professional highlight is a team member receiving a certification.
When a manager starts sharing an operational report, the facilitator must gently but firmly redirect them. You can say that is great progress on that project, but what is your personal or professional good news.
Keep the segue moving quickly by going in a specific order around the room or screen. Each person should take no more than thirty seconds to share one personal and one professional piece of good news. By keeping it brief and human, you protect the transition, build genuine trust, and save your valuable meeting time for solving actual business problems during IDS®.
