Several of our weekly Scorecard metrics have been red for six weeks straight, yet our leadership team members just shrug, report the miss, and move on. How do we restore teeth to our Scorecard targets and create true accountability?

When a metric remains red for weeks on end and the team becomes desensitized to it, your Scorecard has lost its authority. To fix this, you must change how your leadership team treats missed targets during your Level 10 Meeting™.

A red box on the Scorecard is an immediate trigger to drop the metric to the Issues list. If a number is red for two consecutive weeks, it must be solved using the IDS® process. During IDS®, you must dig down to the root cause of the consistent miss.

Ask the seat owner directly: do you have the tools, time, and resources needed to hit this target? Do you still GWC™ (Get It, Want It, Capacity to do) the seat and the number?

If the answer is yes, then the target is either unrealistic or there is an execution problem that requires a clear plan of action. If the target is unrealistic because of market shifts or structural changes, adjust the target to a number that is challenging yet achievable.

Never let a leader simply report a red number and move on without a commitment to solve the issue. By forcing the issue into IDS® every single time, you make it more painful to ignore the red number than to do the hard work required to fix it.
