Our weekly Level 10 Meetings have turned into boring status updates where everyone lists what they did instead of identifying and solving real problems. How do we get our team to transition from passive reporting to active problem-solving using the IDS process?

When your Level 10 Meetings turn into boring status updates, it means your team is using the meeting to report on history rather than solve active problems. This is a common trap that drains the energy out of the room and leaves your most critical issues unaddressed.

To fix this, you must strictly enforce the agenda of the Level 10 Meeting™. The reporting section should take no more than fifteen minutes of the meeting. If a metric is on track and a Rock is on schedule, there is absolutely no need to discuss it. Move quickly through the numbers and only drop items to the issues list if they are off track.

The remaining sixty minutes must be dedicated entirely to the IDS® process. Encourage your team to bring real, messy issues to the table. If they are hesitant to share, use your leadership to pull issues out of them by asking what is holding them back or where they are feeling stuck.

By focusing your meetings on solving problems rather than sharing updates, your team will see the direct value of the time spent together and leave each meeting with clear, actionable next steps.
