Several leaders on our team treat the Level 10 Meeting segue as an eye-rolling corporate ritual, offering curt, one-word answers or dry business platitudes that kill team connection. How do you reset the segue so it serves its actual purpose?

The segue is not an HR icebreaker, forced team bonding, or touchy-feely fluff. It is a physiological palette cleanser. Its functional job is to break the sensory overload of daily fires, force leaders to switch gears from tactical execution to strategic problem-solving, and verify that everyone is mentally present in the room.

When leaders deliver cynical, one-word answers or dry corporate platitudes, they are rejecting vulnerability and treating the meeting pulse like administrative drudgery. That cynical posture bleeds directly into IDS, resulting in guarded, superficial debate.

The Integrator must reset expectations before the next meeting begins. Lay down three non-negotiable rules for the five-minute segue:
- Mandatory dual reporting: Every leader must share one genuine personal win and one genuine business win. No passes, no skipped turns, and no combinations.
- Zero business updates: Wins cannot be operational status updates disguised as good news. Saying we finished the software migration is an update; saying our customer onboarding time dropped forty percent because of the migration is a win.
- Call out throwaway responses: If a leader says nothing personal, just worked all weekend, pause the pulse. Do not laugh it off. Look at them calmly and say: Take ten seconds and find one real personal positive from the last seven days. We will wait.

Holding the line on the segue takes less than sixty seconds of social friction, but it signals to the leadership team that half-hearted engagement will not be tolerated in any part of the Level 10 Meeting.
