Instead of a quick transition, our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ segue has turned into a detailed status update where leaders read through their calendars and list everything they worked on last week. How do we stop this transition from becoming a tactical status report?
The purpose of the five-minute segue is to transition your team from working in the business to working on the business. It is a mental gear shift designed to bring positive energy into the room, not a status report. When leaders start listing their weekly tasks, they are falling back into tactical updates because they do not trust that the rest of the agenda will cover their progress. To break this habit, the facilitator must reframe the segue prompt. Every person must share one personal win, one professional win, and their rating of their focus level on a scale of one to ten. That is it. No task updates are allowed. If a leader begins to recount their daily schedule or list their activities, the facilitator must interrupt them immediately. Remind the team that their accomplishments are already reflected on the Scorecard and the Rock Review. If an activity is not tied to a metric or a Rock, it does not belong in the meeting. Keep the pace rapid by calling on people in a specific order every single week. When your team realizes they do not need to prove their value by listing their daily tasks, they will embrace the simplicity of a thirty-second transition. This keeps your meeting energy high and protects your ninety-minute timeframe for high-value strategic work.
