The headlines section of your Level 10 Meeting is designed to be an early warning system for the health of your organization, not a place for routine status reports or polite chatter. When leaders share minor updates, they dilute the focus and hide critical indicators that need attention. To fix this, you must establish clear boundaries for what constitutes a true headline.

First, define a headline as a significant event that is either a major win or a potential risk for the company. A good rule of thumb is that a headline must directly impact a customer relationship, employee retention, or a major operational process. For example, a minor client asking a routine question is not a headline. A key account threatening to leave or a top-performing employee showing signs of burnout is a headline.

Second, teach your team to state the headline in one sentence and state immediately whether it needs to be dropped to the issues list. If a leader shares a headline, the facilitator should immediately ask if it requires discussion. If the answer is yes, it goes straight to the issues list without another word of discussion. If the answer is no, the team moves to the next headline.

Third, have the Integrator ruthlessly police the section. If a team member begins to share a routine update, politely interrupt them and ask how it impacts the larger organization. By enforcing these strict filters, you protect your five-minute time limit and ensure the team only focuses on the metrics and events that truly matter for your operational health and ultimate exit readiness.
