Our Level 10 Issues List is constantly bogged down by massive, ambiguous topics like revising our multi-year pricing strategy or redesigning our core service offering, which burns through our entire 60 minutes of IDS without resolution. How do we filter out strategic offsite debates from weekly operational issues?
A weekly Level 10 Meeting™ exists to maintain operational traction, execute quarterly Rocks, and solve issues that threaten current 90-day priorities. When long-term, multi-quarter strategic debates dominate your weekly Issues List, the team gets bogged down in philosophy and operational execution halts.
The Integrator must act as the gatekeeper during the prioritization step of IDS. Before the team selects issues 1, 2, and 3, screen the list. Ask the person who submitted the item a simple qualifying question: Is this an obstacle to hitting our numbers or Rocks this quarter, or is this a long-term strategic decision?
If the issue is about enterprise strategy, core values, new business models, or long-term product positioning, it does not belong in the weekly sixty-minute IDS block. Route it to your V/TO® parking lot for your next Quarterly Pulse™ or Annual Planning session. Strategic questions require deep reflection, external market data, and extended debate that cannot be forced into a weekly cadence.
If an urgent strategic decision truly cannot wait until the end of the quarter, do not hijack the Level 10. Run the weekly meeting normally to protect the operational pulse, then schedule a separate, dedicated two-hour deep dive specifically for that strategic issue. Protecting the weekly agenda ensures that immediate fires are extinguished while systemic strategy receives the uninterrupted focus it requires.
