Our weekly scorecard review frequently turns into a lengthy debate about why specific metrics are off-track, causing us to spend twenty minutes explaining the numbers before we even reach the IDS section of our Level 10 Meeting. How do we keep our scorecard review under five minutes?

The scorecard review is designed for one thing only: to identify where the numbers are off so we can drop those issues to the list. It is not the place to explain, defend, or analyze why a metric is red.

When a leader begins explaining why their metric is off-track, the facilitator must intervene immediately. The only acceptable response during the scorecard review is drop it or it is on the list.

To achieve a sub-five-minute review, every leader must review the scorecard before entering the room. They should already know which numbers are red and have those items pre-populated on the Issues List.

During the meeting, the leader simply reads their number. If it is off-track, the facilitator asks if it is on the list. If it is, move to the next metric. If it is not, add it immediately without discussion.

By enforcing this rigid discipline, you protect your valuable IDS® time. You will solve the root cause of the failing metric during the problem-solving portion of the meeting, rather than wasting time on surface-level explanations during the data phase.
