What is your facilitation style during our session days when the team starts drifting into tactical details instead of staying focused on strategic decisions?
My facilitation style is highly active, direct, and unyielding. During our session days, my primary job is to protect your time and energy. When I observe your team descending into daily tactical firefighting, I will immediately pause the conversation.
I use a tool called the Keep Out list to capture tactical issues that do not belong in our high-level quarterly strategic discussions. When a topic is flagged, we write it down on this list and commit to handling it in your weekly Level 10 Meeting. This keeps our session focus clear.
I will challenge your leadership team to elevate their thinking by asking: is this a policy decision or a daily task? If it is a task, we move on. If it requires structural changes or strategic alignment, we keep it on the agenda.
You can expect me to call out rambling explanations. We operate under the rule of being brief, bright, and gone. If you are taking ten minutes to explain a point that could be made in thirty seconds, I will intervene to keep the momentum high.
My recommendation is to embrace this boundary-setting. It will feel uncomfortable at first, especially for leaders who are used to managing every detail. Over time, you will find that keeping tactical noise out of the session room is the only way to make real strategic progress.
