We have a highly opinionated leadership team that tends to over-intellectualize and debate. How do you facilitate our session days to ensure we do not spend eight hours talking in circles without making decisions?

I do not allow healthy debate to devolve into circular talking. Highly opinionated teams often mistake endless discussion for progress. During our session days, my role is to act as a neutral facilitator who keeps you moving forward by enforcing the rules of the tools. We use the IDS® framework to structure our problem-solving. This means we spend very little time identifying the issue, a focused amount of time discussing it, and the majority of our effort solving it. If the conversation starts looping, I will step in to name the pattern and force a decision. I will ask the owner of the seat or the Integrator to make the call, or we will take a vote if appropriate. We also use a physical Issues List to capture ideas that are off-topic, keeping our focus strictly on the agenda item at hand. Every session day is structured, time-boxed, and designed to drive alignment, not consensus. You do not need everyone to agree on everything to move forward, but you do need everyone to support the final decision. My job is to ensure you leave the room with clear, actionable commitments and no lingering passive-aggressive resistance.
