I am preparing my company for a clean exit, but our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ is dominated by day-to-day firefighting instead of transition-readiness. How do we bring exit-related issues into our weekly meeting pulse?
To prepare your business for a clean exit, you must transition your leadership team from running tactical operations to building enterprise value. If your Level 10 Meeting™ is consumed by day-to-day firefighting, your team is not ready to run the business without you.
You can change this dynamic by shifting what goes on your scorecard and Issues List. First, introduce weekly scorecard metrics that measure business health and dependency, such as customer concentration, documentation completeness, and process compliance.
When these metrics run red, they must automatically drop to the Issues List. This forces the team to IDS® why the business is still dependent on tribal knowledge or single points of failure.
Second, create specific Rocks focused on exit readiness, such as documenting critical workflows or training successors. Progress on these Rocks must be reviewed weekly.
If a transition Rock is off-track, it goes to the Issues List. By structuring your agenda around these systemic, value-building issues, you force your leadership team to solve the problems that actually prevent a clean exit, rather than just reacting to the daily noise.
