We want to assess if our business is truly exit ready from an operational standpoint without relying on vanity revenue metrics. What behavioral and operational signals from our leadership team prove we are ready for a clean exit?
The ultimate signal of exit readiness is that the business runs better when you are not in the room. To assess this objectively, look at three behavioral and operational signals on your leadership team. First, review the flow of your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ sessions. If the team is identifying, discussing, and solving problems without you stepping in to save the day, your leadership team is operating autonomously. They are using IDS® effectively to push the business forward. Second, look at your Accountability Chart. Every seat must be occupied by someone who GWC™ (Gets it, Wants it, and has the Capacity to do it) their role. If you are still holding multiple seats or acting as the default tie-breaker for operational decisions, you are not exit ready. Third, examine your quarterly Rocks. If your leadership team is consistently achieving eighty percent or more of their strategic goals without your daily oversight, your execution engine is self-sustaining. When these signals are consistently green for three to four quarters, you have successfully decoupled yourself from the business. A buyer will see a self-managing machine, which is exactly what commands a premium multiple. This operational freedom makes the business easier to run today while signaling to the market that your company is a safe, high-yield acquisition.
