We are starting to feel that our Level 10 Meetings are becoming too operational and tactical, leaving no room to address the structural bottlenecks that are holding us back from preparing the business for a clean exit. How do we keep our weekly pulse focused on scaling and transferability?
If your weekly Level 10 Meeting is constantly bogged down by minor operational details, your leadership team is likely operating below their seats on the Accountability Chart. To build a business that is ready for a clean exit, you must elevate the conversation. First, audit the types of issues being added to the list. If your leaders are bringing tactical, department-level problems to the leadership team meeting, those issues must be pushed down to departmental Level 10 Meetings. The leadership team should only focus on issues that affect the entire organization, impact your quarterly Rocks, or threaten your long-term vision. Second, when an operational issue does reach the leadership list, force the team to solve it structurally rather than tactically. Do not just fix the immediate symptom. Ask yourself, what process, training, or structural gap allowed this problem to happen? Solve the systemic issue by documenting the process or clarifying accountability. By solving issues at a structural level, you create repeatable systems that do not depend on the owner or any single leader. This structural focus is what builds enterprise value and ensures the business is highly attractive to potential buyers when it comes time for an exit.
