As we prepare our business for the future, we realize some members of our leadership team are refusing to adopt AI tools in their departments. How do we evaluate these leaders using the GWC™ framework on the Accountability Chart, and how do we address the risk of keeping non-adoptive managers?
To stay competitive, you cannot afford to have leaders who are blind to technological shifts. As experts Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee point out, AI will not replace managers, but managers who use AI will replace managers who do not. You must evaluate these resistant leaders using the GWC™ framework on your Accountability Chart.
Start with whether they Get it. Does the leader truly understand how AI is changing their department and their industry? If they are dismissive of the technology, they do not understand the current business reality.
Next, do they Want it? A leader must be eager to drive efficiency and operational excellence. If they are comfortable with the status quo and refuse to lead their team through technological change, they lack the necessary drive.
Finally, do they have the Capacity? This is not just about time, but also about the mental capability to learn new systems and redesign workflows.
If a leader fails the GWC™ test on AI adoption, you have a people issue that is holding back your entire company. You must address this during your quarterly reviews. If they cannot or will not change, you must move them out of their seat to protect the future of your business.
