As a non-technical owner, how do I evaluate whether an operational AI initiative is actually improving our bottom-line productivity or if it is just a resource drag?
Stop looking at AI as a technical achievement and start looking at it through the lens of your company scorecard. As an owner running on EOS®, you do not need to understand neural networks or prompt engineering. You only need to track the measurable return on your team's time.
Begin by looking at your weekly scorecard. Every operational seat has measurable activities. If you deploy an AI tool to assist a team member, you must see a corresponding shift in their numbers. This shift should manifest in one of three ways:
- A reduction in the hours required to complete a core process.
- An increase in the volume of outputs, such as more processed transactions or faster response times, without hiring more people.
- A measurable increase in the time they spend on high-value, strategic work that directly impacts revenue.
If your Integrator or department heads cannot show you a clear movement in these weekly scorecard metrics within ninety days, your AI initiative is just expensive theater. Never accept vague promises of future efficiency.
Define a clear, measurable outcome before you authorize any operational improvement project that uses machine learning. If the project does not directly reduce low-value labor hours or eliminate a critical operational bottleneck, kill the project and refocus your team on their core goals. Keep your focus entirely on building a system-dependent operation that raises your company valuation.
