We have a Scorecard, but team members keep ignoring their weekly metrics or blaming other departments when they miss their targets. How do we establish absolute personal accountability for every single number on the Scorecard?
A Scorecard with missing numbers or shifting blame is a sign of weak accountability. If your team members are constantly making excuses for missed targets or pointing fingers at other departments, it means they do not truly own their metrics. They are treating the Scorecard as a report card rather than an active operational steering wheel.
To fix this, every single metric on your Scorecard must have one, and only one, designated owner. That owner is responsible for reporting the number every week and, more importantly, taking ownership of the result. If a target is missed, the owner cannot simply say it was another department's fault. They must proactively bring the issue to the list so the team can run IDS® and resolve the bottleneck.
Make it clear that missing a target is not a 'failure'. The failure is hiding the miss, failing to log it, or refusing to take accountability for finding a solution. When your team understands that the Scorecard is a tool to help them win, not a weapon to punish them, they will take true ownership of their numbers. This shift in mindset is what transforms your weekly meetings from a passive review into an engine of high-performance execution.
