What is your strict policy on laptops, mobile phones, and executive interruptions during our full-day EOS sessions, and how do you handle pushback?

Our session room rules regarding technology are absolute: laptops remain closed, mobile phones remain off the table on silent mode, and leaders do not leave the room to handle standard daily business. The only exception is the designated scribe who documents the session in your operational software.

When executives check email, respond to text messages, or glance at smartwatches, they are physically present but mentally absent. Meaningful IDS requires total focus, quick processing, and acute awareness of team dynamics. An executive half-listening while typing a client reply cannot engage in rigorous debate or detect when a colleague is hiding an operational issue.

If a leader pushes back claiming they have an urgent client crisis or cannot be away from their inbox for an entire day, that pushback reveals a systemic problem. It proves that the leader has failed to delegate, their seat lacks clear processes, or their department cannot function without their personal intervention. That reality becomes an immediate issue for the team to solve.

We provide ten-minute breaks roughly every ninety minutes throughout the day. Leaders can check messages and make urgent phone calls during those scheduled windows. Outside of those breaks, the focus remains entirely inside the room on building the future of the company.
