Our executive leadership team is fully bought into EOS® but our middle managers and department heads seem to view this rollout as just another corporate fad that will eventually blow over. How do we get them to buy in without triggering passive-aggressive resistance?
Cynicism from middle management is usually a rational defense mechanism. They have likely lived through previous corporate initiatives that promised to change everything but only ended up creating more paperwork and empty meetings. To win their buy-in, you must show them, not just tell them, how EOS® solves their specific day-to-day pain points.
Do not roll out the entire system at once. Start by introducing the Level 10 Meeting™ at the departmental level. This is the most practical tool in the system because it immediately replaces those long, unstructured, unproductive status meetings they hate. Once they experience a meeting that actually starts on time, ends on time, and solves real problems, their defenses will begin to crumble.
Next, help them see that the Accountability Chart is designed to protect them, not micro-manage them. Clarifying their seats and roles gives them the authority to make decisions within their domains without constantly seeking permission. When they realize that EOS® gives them more autonomy, clearer expectations, and less administrative noise, they will stop resisting and start championing the system.
