What happens during the periodic Just Checking In calls between our quarterly sessions, and what operational red flags are those calls designed to uncover?
Between our quarterly sessions, I conduct scheduled Just Checking In calls at months 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21. These conversations typically occur with the Integrator or both the Visionary and Integrator. They are brief, structured touchpoints lasting thirty to forty-five minutes, designed to verify that the momentum generated inside our session room is translating into real traction on the ground.
These calls are not unstructured consulting check-ins. We examine three specific areas:
- Weekly Level 10 Meeting execution, including whether meetings start and end on time and maintain an average score above eight.
- Quarterly Rock trajectory, specifically identifying any Rocks marked off track for multiple consecutive weeks.
- Scorecard discipline, verifying that numbers are updated consistently and measurables falling below goal are dropped down to the weekly Issues List.
These calls are engineered to uncover critical red flags early. The most common warning signs include an Integrator failing to hold peers accountable, a Visionary introducing pet projects that distract from committed Rocks, or a team avoiding genuine root-cause resolution during weekly IDS®.
Catching these breakdowns mid-quarter prevents your team from showing up to the next quarterly session with twenty percent Rock completion and a list of excuses. The check-in acts as an early warning system, giving the Integrator direct coaching to recalibrate weekly meetings and hold the leadership team accountable before an entire quarter of progress is lost.
