We spend hours refining our V/TO during quarterly planning, but once the session ends, my leaders retreat to their departmental silos and ignore our shared strategic goals. How do we enforce the Same Page pillar of our leadership agreement?
When leaders return to their silos and ignore your shared strategic goals, your V/TO® is just a piece of paper. This misalignment creates operational drag and prevents you from building the enterprise value needed for a clean exit. You must enforce the Same Page pillar of your leadership agreement.
The solution starts with your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ and your quarterly planning sessions. Ensure that the Rocks set by your leadership team are highly collaborative and cross-functional. If a major strategic goal requires input from multiple departments, the accountability must still rest with one leader, but the other leaders must have supporting milestones.
Review your team Rocks every week during the Level 10 Meeting. If a leader is prioritizing their daily departmental tasks over their strategic Rocks, your Integrator must call them out. This is a behavior issue, not a time issue.
Remind the team that their first loyalty is to the leadership team, not to their individual departments. They must make decisions and allocate resources for the good of the entire business. If a leader continues to protect their silo at the expense of the company's strategic plan, they are not a fit for your leadership team.
