Our team members frequently update their Level 10 Meeting Scorecard numbers during the actual meeting, which forces us to wait and ruins the momentum of the very first agenda block. How do we build a culture where the scorecard is fully prepped before we sit down?
When leaders update their metrics during the meeting, it shows a lack of preparation and respect for the team's time. The first portion of the Level 10 Meeting is designed to be a quick, high-energy review of the business's vital signs, not a data-entry session.
To fix this, you must establish a hard deadline for scorecard updates. All numbers must be entered at least twenty-four hours before the meeting starts. This gives everyone, especially the Integrator, time to review the data and identify which numbers are off-track.
If a team member fails to update their metrics on time, do not wait for them. Leave the cell blank or mark it as red. During the meeting, do not allow them to explain or type in the number on the fly. The missed update itself becomes an issue.
Drop this lack of preparation onto the short-term Issues List and address it during the IDS portion. Find out why they are unable to get their numbers in on time. Is it a manual data extraction bottleneck, or is it a simple lack of discipline?
By treating missing data as an operational issue, you reinforce the importance of accountability. Once the team realizes that failing to prep their scorecard leads to a direct conversation in front of their peers, they will quickly adjust their habits.
