We have rolled out EOS® to our leadership team, but some members use their own project management software instead of the weekly Scorecard and Rocks, causing a disconnect. How do we enforce tool consistency without micromanaging?
Running a business on EOS® requires a single, unified operating system. When individual leadership team members decide to use their own rogue tools, it fractures your organizational focus and creates data silos. This is not a matter of personal preference. It is a matter of company alignment.
To enforce tool consistency, you must establish that the weekly Scorecard and Rocks are the only source of truth for the health of the business. If an activity or metric is not reflected on the Scorecard or listed as a Rock, it does not exist in the eyes of the leadership team.
Start by addressing this in your Level 10 Meeting™. If a leader tries to update the team using their external project management tool, the Integrator must redirect them. They must use the standard EOS® tools. The Integrator must make it clear that while department-specific tools can manage daily tasks, the leadership team must run on the shared operating system.
If resistance continues, it is an issue that must be put on the Issues List and solved through IDS®. Often, leaders resist because they do not fully understand how to translate their complex projects into simple Rocks or Scorecard measurables. Use the IDS® process to help them simplify their metrics, and do not compromise on having one way of operating.
