Our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ Issues List is frequently empty when we arrive on Monday morning, forcing us to spend the first ten minutes of our ninety-minute pulse brainstorming issues on the spot. This lag results in a rushed IDS® session where we scramble to solve superficial problems rather than deep structural bottlenecks. How do we enforce a proactive discipline for logging issues throughout the week?
An empty Issues List at the start of your Level 10 Meeting™ is not a sign of a perfect business; it is a sign of a leadership team that is asleep at the wheel. When leaders wait until Monday morning to think about their issues, they end up identifying superficial, top-of-mind problems rather than the deep operational bottlenecks that are stalling your growth or blocking your exit readiness.
To kill this meeting waste, you must build the habit of real-time logging. Issues must be captured the moment they occur during the week, not manufactured during the first ten minutes of your weekly pulse.
Every leader must have access to your digital Level 10 Meeting™ board on their phone or desktop. The moment a customer complains, a metric misses its target, or an operational process breaks down, the responsible leader must immediately drop it onto the Issues List.
The facilitator must enforce this discipline by refusing to let the team brainstorm issues during the meeting itself. If the list is empty, you review the scorecard, update your Rocks, run through the To-Dos, and end the meeting early. The pain of a short, awkward meeting will quickly force your leaders to start documenting their real issues during the week.
