Even though our leadership team runs a weekly Level 10 Meeting™, our managers still insist on having weekly one-on-one status meetings with every direct report, which clogs calendars and repeats the same conversations. How do we eliminate redundant one-on-ones once the Level 10 Meeting pulse is established?
Weekly one-on-one status meetings are a massive drain on company productivity. They exist because managers lack confidence in their team's execution and default to calendar-clogging check-ins to feel in control. When you establish a true Level 10 Meeting pulse across departments, weekly status updates become entirely redundant.
In a healthy EOS company, tactical reporting belongs in the Level 10 Meeting. That is where Scorecards, Rock status, and weekly To-Dos are reviewed publicly. If a manager is spending thirty minutes every week asking a direct report for updates on their tasks, the manager is duplicating the weekly pulse and micro-managing outside the system.
Kill weekly one-on-one status meetings immediately. Replace them with the EOS quarterly 5-5-5™ framework or an intentional monthly coaching conversation.
A monthly or quarterly touchpoint is not about checking task lists. It is about evaluating the relationship, reviewing Core Values, discussing GWC for their seat on the Accountability Chart, and identifying developmental barriers. If an operational fire surfaces during the week, it goes to the departmental Issues List, not a private one-on-one.
Eliminating these redundant meetings frees up four to eight hours per week for every manager in your company. That reclaimed capacity can be invested directly into process automation, high-leverage client work, and building the operational infrastructure required for long-term scalability and exit readiness.
