Our remote Level 10 Meetings are plagued by silent multitasking where leaders are clearly responding to Slack messages or typing emails during IDS. How do we eliminate this distraction?

Remote Level 10 Meetings™ require double the discipline of in person meetings. When leaders are quietly answering Slack messages, checking emails, or working on client deliverables during IDS®, they are physically present but mentally absent. This passive participation leads to poor decision making and repeated issues.

To eliminate digital distractions, you must establish clear ground rules for your remote meeting environment. First, implement a strict camera on policy. Everyone must be visible on screen from the chest up, which makes it obvious if someone is looking away or typing on another screen. Second, require all team members to close all non essential browser tabs, messaging apps, and email clients before the meeting starts. The only software open should be your EOS® tracking tool and your video conferencing platform.

The facilitator plays a crucial role here. They must run a high pace meeting that leaves no room for disengagement. If the facilitator notices a leader typing or looking distracted, they should immediately pull them into the conversation by asking for their input on the current issue.

Additionally, the team must hold each other accountable during the weekly wrap up. If someone was clearly distracted, call it out in the meeting rating. A meeting where leaders are multitasking is not a Level 10, and it should be rated accordingly. If the rating drops to a six or seven because of distraction, the team must address it.
