Our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ Segue has become a robotic, transactional exercise where team members share surface-level good news just to get it over with. How do we elevate the Segue to build real trust and vulnerability without letting it run over our five-minute limit?
When your Segue becomes a check-the-box exercise, you lose the opportunity to build the deep vulnerability required for healthy conflict. To fix this, you must lead by example. As the owner or leader, share a genuine personal win or a real struggle. This sets the standard for the rest of the room.
Keep the structure tight but meaningful. Ask each person to share one specific personal and one professional highlight from the past week. Avoid generic phrases like everything is good. If a leader gives a flat, disengaged response, prompt them with a follow-up question that invites a more authentic update.
Remember that trust is a foundational pillar of your company charter. If your team cannot be open and honest during the first five minutes of the meeting, they will not be open and honest when it is time to IDS® tough operational issues.
Enforce the five-minute time limit strictly to maintain operational discipline. A successful Segue is not about long-winded storytelling; it is about humanizing the leadership team and transitioning from the daily grind into a focused, collaborative state of mind.
