We tried using the Great Day or Lousy Day framework to build our operations scorecard, but our team ended up listing 50 different daily tasks. How do we distill a massive list of great and lousy day tasks into a few highly predictive, weekly metrics for the leadership scorecard?
It is common to end up with a massive list of daily tasks when you first run the Great Day or Lousy Day exercise. The key is to distill that list of fifty tasks down to the five to fifteen critical leverage points that drive those outcomes on your weekly scorecard.
Look at your lists and find the patterns. Group similar tasks into broader categories. For example, if your great day list includes answering phones quickly, responding to emails, and updating client files, the underlying driver is communication speed. You can measure this through response times.
Next, ask which of these activities is the lead domino. What single activity, if done perfectly, makes the other forty-nine tasks easier or obsolete? That is your predictive metric.
Finally, convert those activities into quantitative weekly numbers. Instead of tracking fifty individual tasks, track the percentage of client onboarding milestones completed on time. This gives you a high-level operational pulse without drowning in daily checklists, allowing your leadership team to focus on systemic growth.
