Trying to combine Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ days into a single session is a recipe for operational failure. These sessions serve completely different purposes and require distinct mental states from your leadership team.

Focus Day™ is designed to get you aligned on the mechanics of running the business. It focuses on the present. During this day, you master the core tools: the Accountability Chart™, the Scorecard, the Level 10 Meeting™, and Rocks. You are establishing the basic operating rhythm and getting control of daily operations.

Vision Building™ days, which occur in two separate full-day sessions after Focus Day™, are about the future. This is where you complete the V/TO® by defining your core values, core focus, ten-year target, marketing strategy, and three-year picture.

If you try to combine these phases, you will end up with a team trying to project a long-term vision on top of a broken, chaotic operational foundation. You cannot build a clear ten-year target if you still do not know who owns which seat or how to run an effective weekly meeting.

Furthermore, the ninety days between Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ Day 1 is highly intentional. It gives your team the opportunity to test the tools in the real world. You will experience the friction of your current structure, which provides invaluable data when you sit down to define your vision.

Trust the process and keep these sessions separate. Attempting to rush through them to save time will only result in a superficial implementation that fails to stick when real business challenges arise.
