We are rolling the Level 10 Meeting out to our field-based service technicians who do not sit at desks or use computers during the day. How do we run an effective weekly meeting with this frontline team?
Frontline and field-based teams do not need a complex, software-heavy meeting. They need a highly practical, fast-paced operational pulse. If you try to force field service technicians to sit through a ninety-minute meeting looking at spreadsheet columns, they will tune out completely.
First, adjust the timebox. While leadership needs ninety minutes, a frontline field team can often run a highly effective Level 10 Meeting in forty-five to sixty minutes. Protect the structure but compress the timeframes. Spend five minutes on the transition, five minutes on metrics, five minutes on customer and employee headlines, and the rest on solving direct operational roadblocks.
Second, eliminate the screen barrier. Have the supervisor run the meeting using a simple, physical whiteboard in the shop or a mobile-friendly view on a tablet. The metrics must be highly relevant to their daily work, such as jobs completed, safety incidents, or callback rates.
Third, teach them to focus only on issues they can solve. Frontline teams often complain about things outside their control. The supervisor must redirect these gripes and keep them focused on immediate roadblocks. If an issue requires leadership intervention, cascade it up to the leadership Issues List.
Keep it simple, visual, and highly tactical. When field teams see that this meeting actually clears roadblocks and makes their daily jobs easier, they will buy in completely.
