I am the founder and the sole driver of our company's product vision. How do we use the EOS framework over a five-year horizon to institutionalize our product roadmap so buyers do not see me as the single point of failure?
To remove yourself as the single point of failure for your product vision, you must transition the roadmap from your head to a structured organizational process. Start by separating the Visionary seat from the Product Management seat on your Accountability Chart. Even if you hold the Visionary seat today, you need a dedicated head of product who owns the daily execution and GWC the role.
Next, make your product development lifecycle a core process. Document this process from ideation to deployment, identifying where generative AI or automated testing can reduce dependency on individual developers.
Use your quarterly Rocks to hand over specific product milestones to your leadership team. In your weekly Level 10 Meetings, the product lead must own the reporting of product health metrics rather than you providing verbal updates.
By giving your team ownership of the product roadmap, you demonstrate to a strategic buyer that your innovation pipeline is a repeatable system. When buyers see that your team can execute the three-year picture without you dictating every product feature, they will price your intellectual property at a much higher multiple because the operational risk of your exit is minimized.
