Our leadership team has developed scorecard numbness where metrics are missed week after week, but we just roll past them without solving the underlying issues. How do we restore a culture of accountability around missed weekly targets?
Scorecard numbness is a silent killer of execution. When your scorecard has red numbers week after week and nobody says anything, your team is silently agreeing that your targets do not matter. This passivity destroys accountability and trains your leaders to tolerate mediocrity.
To cure scorecard numbness, you must strictly enforce the rules of the Level 10 Meeting™. During the scorecard review, you have exactly five minutes to walk through the numbers. There is absolutely no discussing, defending, or explaining why a number is red during this time.
If a number is missed, the owner must simply say, drop it. This means the missed metric is instantly moved to the Issues List.
Once you reach the IDS® portion of your meeting, you must prioritize and tackle these missed metrics. Use the IDS® process to dig deep and identify the root cause of the red number. Ask yourselves if this is a capacity issue, a process failure, or if the target is simply unrealistic.
By forcing every missed number to go through IDS®, you turn the scorecard from a passive report into an active tool for problem-solving. Your team will quickly realize that they cannot simply ignore red numbers, because they will be required to explain and solve them. This shift restores a healthy sense of urgency and ensures your scorecard drives continuous operational improvement.
