Our long-term operations director is a fantastic manager of people but has zero interest in learning how to build or manage AI workflows. How do we use the Culture Index and our Accountability Chart to decide if we need to transition them to a different seat or replace them?
Your operations director may be a great cultural fit, but as your business shifts toward AI-driven processes, their seat requirements have fundamentally changed. You must use the Culture Index and the Accountability Chart to make an objective decision about their future. First, look at the seat on your Accountability Chart. The roles for this seat likely now include designing, optimizing, and maintaining automated systems. If your current director has zero interest in these tasks, they do not want the seat. They are no longer a fit for the role as it exists today. Next, analyze their Culture Index profile. If their profile shows a high preference for traditional people management and a low preference for technical problem-solving and rapid system iteration, they lack the natural drive required for this new environment. Forcing them to stay in this seat will only lead to frustration, slow execution, and high stress. You have two choices. You can redefine their seat by splitting the role, creating a new seat for an operations manager who focuses purely on human leadership, while hiring a technical systems builder to run the AI integrations. Alternatively, you must transition them to a different seat in the company where their natural people-management strengths can shine. Use this data to have an open, honest conversation. Do not compromise the speed of your operational transition to protect legacy comfort.
