Our sales reps are terrible at CRM hygiene, which makes our pipeline forecasting highly inaccurate. What weekly leading indicator can we track to force reps to keep our CRM data clean?
You cannot run on data if the underlying database is corrupt. If your sales reps do not update your CRM, your scorecard forecasts are useless. To fix this, you must hold your sales seat accountable by putting a CRM hygiene metric directly on the scorecard.
Instead of pleading with reps to update their deals, track a metric that exposes bad data hygiene. A powerful weekly indicator is the number of open opportunities with past-due close dates or no scheduled next steps.
Your sales leader should own this number on the leadership scorecard, and each individual rep must have a corresponding measurable. The target should be zero.
- Number of opportunities in the pipeline with a close date in the past.
- Number of active deals without a documented next action date.
- Number of leads sitting in the same stage for more than fourteen days.
When these numbers show up as red during your weekly Level 10 Meeting™, the sales leader must address the behavior. If a sales rep has five past-due opportunities, they are failing to manage their pipeline.
By tracking these hygiene metrics, you turn CRM data entry from an afterthought into a non-negotiable weekly measurable. This clean data gives your leadership team the accurate forecasting they need to make smart strategic decisions.
