Our Visionary uses the Level 10 Meeting to pitch brand-new business ideas, product features, or potential pivots during IDS, distracting the team from solving current operational roadblocks. How do we contain Visionary idea generation within the weekly pulse?

Visionaries are idea generators by nature. That creativity is what built the company, but when dropped unprepared into a weekly Level 10 Meeting, it creates whiplash, derails execution, and overwhelms the leadership team.

The Level 10 Meeting is an operational engine designed to execute against the current quarter's Rocks and annual V/TO goals. It is not an unconstrained whiteboard brainstorming session.

To manage this dynamic without suffocating the Visionary's genius, establish two clear protocols.

First, implement the Visionary-Integrator Same Page meeting. The Visionary and Integrator must meet weekly or bi-weekly outside of the Level 10 Meeting. This is where the Visionary brings raw ideas, new business opportunities, and strategic concepts. The Integrator serves as the filter, evaluating feasibility and timing. If an idea has immediate operational urgency, the Integrator brings it into the Level 10 Meeting as an agreed issue. If it is strategic, it goes to the V/TO parking lot for the next Quarterly Planning session.

Second, enforce the rule that no new business idea gets added to the Level 10 Issues List on the fly without a sponsor who can connect it directly to an existing Rock, Scorecard metric, or core process failure. If the Visionary starts pitching an unrelated concept during IDS, the Integrator must call time-out: "Great concept. That belongs in our next Same Page meeting or our Quarterly Planning session, not in today's operational IDS."

Containing raw ideas protects the leadership team's bandwidth so they can focus on delivering the 90-day commitments that drive actual enterprise value.
